GOING OUT

No. 192: University of Malaya
No. 187: University Kebangsaan Malaysia

UM is on its way out. It slides further down the top 200 rankings this year. It has skidded out of top 100 in 2004 and is now struggling to stay within the top 200. Probably, it will be out of the league next year.

The Times Higher Education Supplement 2006 (selected) rankings:
1. Harvard University (US)
2. University of Cambridge (UK)
3. University of Oxford (UK)
4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T., US)

Will Bodolah say "the criterion used are different. So, it's inaccurate. According to us... it should be in top 20"

In wake of dropping in standards of our education, I call for a revision of policy regulating local universities be open to non-bumis:
1) Allow non-bumis be appointed as vice-chancellors
2) Address the stark reduction of non-bumi lecturers from 70% in 1965 to only 5% in 2004.
3) Intake quota for non-bumis be eased.
