Wallowing in fantasy

This morning, more comedies have come to my attention.

The Star reads, "Kuan Yew: I'm sorry"
The NST reads, "Lee says sorry"

But Lee's publicised reply letter to Pak Lelah shows that he remained steadfast to his previous statements. He was not sorry for his comments but for the DISCOMFORT he had caused, not to the misguided bunch but to Pak Lelah only.

Obviously, the spin doctors are at work again. And I've "caught them" (Xingshan slang)!

Right from the first day Malaysia reacted, a BELATED reaction actually, dramatically to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's "marginalization" remark at a forum in Singapore, it has been on a pathetic series of self-inflicted delusional misnomers. And that self-serving self-fooling mode continues to this morning.

We were led to believe LKY was "meddling" in our affairs. The truth is LKY was only airing his view when asked by a foreign delegate about the "little red dot's" position being surrounded by the greens (its Muslim neighbours). If he was IMPOSING his views on this country, then he can be said of meddling. But the point is, he was ASKED of his view. He couldn't care less if his opinion has any tangible influence in this country.

But Malaysia has to respond. As I mentioned earlier, it was a BELATED response.

Wonder why?

The gahmen was facing mounting pressures from the Chinese on issues and scandals involving Chinese schools. It has seriously undermined the image and credibility of the ruling party. It need a way out, temporarily. It need to shift a portion of the population's attention, especially its main supporters, away from the imbroglio. It tried to clamp down on Chinese media reporting development of the investigations into the "missing funds" for the refurbishments of Chinese schools. But the DAP make known the attempt to the public. The opposition party urged the PM to act on preserving transparency.

So, what's left is, it CHOSE to respond to LKY.

But, what can Malaysia do to him to placate the seething mass it had deliberately aroused earlier on? Remember, our Prime Mini-star was not seeking for an apology but EXPLANATIONS for his remarks which embarassed the country in the eyes of the world. What to do? Spin.

The letter clearly denotes unfair systems are imposed on the Chinese people and it tells of Malaysia's tendency to bash Singapore on racial issues.

The more Malaysia demands from the old man, the more embarassments are being thrashed out. It will not augur well for Malaysia in the long run. In fact, it is VERY damaging. LKY had made Malaysia looked REALLY REALLY bad! Given LKY's reputation, the world anticipates his reply and they are listening. Pak Lah was not asking for explanations. He was asking for trouble! Somebody has to tell him to stop doing what he's doing. Our media and politicians may lie to us but not the world.

As a forumer said, "Round 1 to LKY, round 2 to LKY". It's 2-0.

So, in order to put to rest all the embarassing episodes, it goes on to tell its people, foolingly, LKY had apologized.

One mistake leading to another. And it grows bigger. Such is the leadership of Malehsia.
