Hazy Xingshan

It has arrived...

Finally, the haze has returned to blanket our city and turn the sky grey. It has seemingly became part of our seasonal cycle. Other countries have the spring, summer, autumn and winter seasons. We now have, apart from the commonly known monsoon season, the predictable hazy period each year. This is the new Malaysia.

The media has been pointing out Indonesia as the main culprit that causes the poor quality of the air. But a day before I took the above picture, I saw this:

pictures taken in Megah Ria

You don't know how big it was. I could see it from the Pasir Gudang Highway. Heavy smokes were seen billowing into the sky. Tracing the source of the smoke, I entered Taman Rinting and I felt like in a warzone. My next thought was a factory might be on fire. BIG fire, man! Upon reaching the area, I realize it was an open burning... right on our land.

I don't know if the culprit has been fined. Perhaps the police can get information from me. But they have to pay me first.

This is only a small fire in open space. Now, imagine it is a hundred times bigger and there are HUNDREDS and perhaps thousands of open burnings going on in Indonesia. The thick smokes travelled all the way to our territory. It makes me feel as if our world is very small.

If this kind of thing happens in the ancient times, the people might think Heaven has cast its grey spell... and a meaningless worship would begin...

Changing climate also reflects bad governance... As the skies indicated, the current political climate is not good.
